Chippewa Steel News Release
The Steel swept the Fairbanks Ice Dogs this past weekend and are off to a 2-0 start to the season.
Friday night Connor Szmul scored the first goal in franchise history. His goal started the momentum that led to the next two goals and ended the home opener with a 3-1 win. The Steel came out strong for game 2 of the weekend series and held the Ice Dogs off to record a 3-2 win.
The team will look to carry the momentum this week as they head to play in the 'Greatest Show on Ice', the NAHL Showcase. The Showcase will take place September 19-22 in Blaine, MN at the Schwan Super Rink. The Showcase is one of the NAHL's biggest events of the season. The event brings in over 9,000 people and more than 350 professional, college, and junior scouts which will lead to many players getting NCAA opportunities after participating in the event.
The Steel will start the week by taking on the Jamestown Rebels on September 19. The Rebels are traveling from Jamestown, NY and will be taking on the Steel in their first regular season game. On Thursday, they will face the Amarillo Bulls. This South Division team started off their season with a 4-2 loss against the Lone Star Brahmas. On Friday night the Steel will face off against the Brahmas who have a 1-0 record for the season. To wrap up the showcase they will take on the Topeka Pilots who have 3 games under their belt for the season. The Pilots took on the Odessa Jackalopes for their first 3 games and won 2 out of those 3.
The Steel will be back at home for Markquart Motors Night on Saturday, September 29th to take on the Janesville Jets at 7:10 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 715-861-2131 or online at chippewasteelhockey.com.
