(Pleasanton, CA. February 26, 2007) The Golden Baseball League is pleased to announce that outfielder Lino Garcia of the Chico Outlaws has been acquired by the Colorado Rockies and has reported to spring training in Tucson, Arizona and is training with their Double-A squad that plays in Tulsa in the Texas League.

Garcia, 23, is a 6-3, 180 pound outfielder originally signed as a 17-year old out of Venezuela by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played five years in Arizona's minor league system, reaching High-A Lancaster in the California League before being released at the end of the 2005 season. As a starting outfielder for the Chico Outlaws last season he hit .240 in 192 at bats with good power as his 46 hits included 11 doubles, 2 triples, and 4 home runs. He was also outstanding on defense as he had just 1 error in 126 chances for a .992 fielding percentage (2nd best of GBL outfielders) and led the GBL with 10 outfield assists as he won a Gold Glove Award.

"It's good to see Lino getting a second change with a major league organization after just one year of independent minor league ball" said Kevin Outcalt, GBL Commissioner. "He's the fifth GBL player in the last five weeks to be signed by a big league club, and we believe he will do very well with Colorado."
