Chicago Steel Announce Ownership Sale to Wirtz Corporation

The Chicago Steel and the United States Hockey League have announced the sale of the Steel to Chicago-based Wirtz Corporation.
One of the most successful organizations in the USHL, the Steel has been a member of the league since 2000-01. The Steel, who went 39-18-4-1 last year en route to the Eastern Conference title, has won a pair of Clark Cups as USHL playoff champions in 2017 and 2021, along with Anderson Cup titles as regular-season champions in 2020 and 2021.
Former Steel defenseman Owen Power was selected first overall by Buffalo in the 2021 National Hockey League Draft. Former Steel forward Adam Fantilli, who was selected #3 by Columbus at this year's NHL Draft, won the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in NCAA Division I men's hockey this year and Macklin Celebrini, who's projected as a top prospect for next year's NHL Draft was named the Most Outstanding Player, the Top Forward and Top Rookie in the USHL for 2022-23.
Larry Robbins, CEO of Glenview Capital, has owned the Chicago Steel since the 2000-2001 season and served as the team's CEO. "Larry's visionary leadership and groundbreaking approach to development have supported the advancement of top players and coaches to the NHL." Glenn Hefferan, USHL President and Commissioner. "On behalf of the USHL, we thank Larry for his remarkable contributions to the League and wish him much success in the future," added Hefferan.
"The USHL is excited to welcome the Wirtz family and Wirtz Corporation as the new principal owners of the Chicago Steel," remarked Hefferan. "With a history of success and development already in place and a new ownership group coming in, we are excited to see what's in store for Steel in the coming years."
