CHICAGO (Dec. 4, 2010) -- The Chicago Riot of the Major Indoor Soccer League announces today that it has agreed to terms with former Chicago Fire defender Krzysztof Krol to play for the MISL team through the month of December. Per team policy, terms of the agreement are not released.
Krol will not be available for Sunday's home opener against the Milwaukee Wave, but is expected to be available for the Riot's four other December games, including the team's Dec. 12 home match against the Missouri Comets at the Odeum Sports and Expo Center in Villa Park.
"He is a great addition to our squad and should adapt well to the indoor game," Riot Head Coach Jeff Kraft said. "He brings a level of experience that can only help us as we head into this busy stretch of the season."
Krol played with the Fire of Major League Soccer during their 2010 season, making 19 appearances at left defensive back. The former U-20 Poland international made his Fire debut on April 3, starting in a 2-2 draw against eventual MLS champion Colorado Rapids.
He joined the Fire on loan from Jagiellonia Bialystok, where he made 30 appearances in Poland's top-flight Ekstraklase. The 23-year-old started his club career in 2006 with Dyskobolia Grodzisk, also of Poland's Ekstraklase. In early 2007, he joined Real Madrid's third team, quickly earning a promotion to the Spanish giant's second team before moving back to Poland.
"I'm happy that I will be able to help out the Riot during December and keep in shape for my move to Europe in the new year," Krol said.
Krol will join his Riot teammates next Thursday as the team gears up for a three-game stretch in three consecutive days, starting with a Friday, Dec. 10, match at the Omaha Vipers, a trip to Milwaukee on Dec. 11, capped off with a home match against the Missouri Comets on Dec. 12.
"We really need a lot of fresh bodies heading into that weekend," Kraft said. "To get a player of his caliber is an added bonus."
The Riot holds its home opener at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 against the Milwaukee Wave at the Odeum Sports and Expo Center in Villa Park. For tickets and more information about the Riot, visit www.ChicagoRiotSoccer.comor call 630-708-6284.
