Charlie Machell scored his first goal for FC Tucson late in the first half, but the team could not break through the Madison defense a second time and fell 2-1 at Breese Stevens Field on Saturday.
The cold and wet night in Wisconsin saw Madison strike first in the 29th minute. Forward Nazeem Bartman blasted the ball from the left side of the box into the top left corner of the net.
Machell, however, gave Tucson the equalizer just before the end of the first half.
Louis Perez's corner sailed over the heads of the Madison defense and straight into the feet of Machell who easily tapped in the ball from close range.
The Englishman joins the club with professional experience across the globe, having played in Denmark, Faroe Islands, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia and Oman.
Madison forward Abdou Mbacke Thaim gave the hosts its second lead of the night by slotting home a shot into the bottom left corner of the box which proved to the game winner just five minutes into the second half.
Tucson continued to press for the second goal, but could not get through Madison's defense. Forward Deri Corfe had four shots throughout the night, but two were blocked and the other two were saved by Madison goalkeeper Taylor Bailey.

QUOTES
"We started out too far on the back foot, but we started to play a bit better and reacted better to the pace of the game and physicality of the game as it went on but it was too little, too late." - FC Tucson Head Coach Jon Pearlman
"When there's queues to press and opportunities for us to get after the game, we do. We want to put more pressure on the ball and we've been very successful on set pieces, but we need to match that with goals from the run of play." - FC Tucson Head Coach Jon Pearlman
