Charge to Play in Hall of Fame Game

VILLANOVA, PA (Monday, July 29, 2002) - The Philadelphia Charge announced today that they have agreed to play the Boston Breakers in the 2002 WUSA Hall of Fame Game on Monday, October 14 at 2 p.m. at At-A-Glance Field on the campus of the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, NY during 2002 Induction Weekend.

The Charge are currently in first place in the WUSA at 10-2-5 with 35 points. The Breakers, who are in sixth place at 4-8-7, played the Charge to a 1-1 tie this past Saturday, July 27 in Boston. Philadelphia won the three-game season series from the Breakers 2-0-1, outscoring Boston 6-3.

United States National Team star Kristine Lilly will lead the Breakers on their second trip to the Hall of Fame. Dagny Mellgren, the Norwegian star that broke American hearts with her golden goal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics women's soccer final, is the Breakers top goal scorer and German international Maren Meinert is equally as fun to watch.

"We are very excited about the 2002 WUSA Hall of Fame Game," Hall of Fame President/CEO Will Lunn stated. "We are matching two strong teams and we are featuring so many great international players."

There will be a number of events during the 2002 Induction Weekend, including the induction of three soccer greats -- Adolph Bachmeier of the US National Team and the Chicago Mustangs and Kickers, Vladislav 'Bogie' Bogicevic of the New York Cosmos and the Yugoslavian National Team, and Shannon Higgins-Cirovski, the midfielder motor of the 1991 World Champion US Women's National Team.

The National Soccer Hall of Fame, located in Oneonta, NY, opened a new 40,000 sq.ft., state-of-the-art museum in 1999. The new Hall of Fame tells the story of soccer in America and features World Cup as well as greatest moments in international soccer. The new Hall features an extensive interactive, youth oriented Kicks Zone where visitors have fun kicking, heading and playing computer trivia stations and video soccer games. The VideoWall features greatest moments and greatest goals as well as live soccer action with World Cup, MLS, US Soccer and WUSA matches. Unique and rare artifacts on exhibition range from the world's oldest soccer ball to the Women's World Cup won by the USA in 1999. Pele and Mia Hamm's uniforms, Kristine Lilly's golden shoes, NASL championship rings, MLS championship trophy, WUSA gallery - it's all at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. In addition to the interactive Museum, the National Soccer Hall of Fame complex boasts the Kicks Hall of Fame Museum Store, a research library, four world-class soccer fields and office/meeting facilities.
