Philadelphia Charge News Release
The Philadelphia Charge begin a three-game homestand this Saturday, June 1, when they host the defending Founders Cup champion San Jose Cyberrays starting at 7 p.m. at Villanova Stadium. The first 5,000 fans to the game will receive a Charge team photo courtesy of PECO Energy.
The Charge sit alone atop the WUSA standings, posting a 5-1-0 mark for 15 points - four points better than the second-place team. Philadelphia, which is off to the best start in league history, is led by midfielder Kelly Smith, who is tied for the league lead in points with 11. Her four goals and three assists through just six games already equals her totals of last season.
The Cyberrays, who won the league championship last year, boast a star-studded cast of players. U.S. National Team member Brandi Chastain is joined by the dangerous Brazilian trio of Sissi, Prentinha and Katia. San Jose, which is 2-1 all-time against Philly, sits in a tie for third place with a 3-3-1 record for 10 points.
