Philadelphia Charge News Release
The Philadelphia Charge take the field again this Saturday, June 29, when they host U.S. National Team goalkeeper Briana Scurry and the Atlanta Beat at 7 p.m. at Villanova Stadium. The first 5,000 kids 14 and under to the game will receive a Charge Autograph Book courtesy of Hyundai.
The Charge enter the weekend in a tie for first place with the Carolina Courage. Philadelphia, which has a game in hand over the Courage, is 7-1-3 for 24 points and is 3-0-2 at Villanova Stadium this season. Dating back to last year, the Charge are an impressive 5-0-3 in their last eight as the host. The club has outscored its opponents 17-7 over that eight-game span.
Charge forward Marinette Pichon carries the load offensively for Philly. She leads the team with seven goals and sits in a tie for seventh in the league with 15 points. The Frenchwoman has scored six of the last nine goals for the Charge, who defeated the Beat 2-0 earlier this season to move to 1-1-2 in four all-time regular season meetings against Atlanta.
In goal, Melissa Moore is leading the league in wins (7), winning percentage (77.27) and goals-against average (0.82). She is one of the favorites for WUSA Goalkeeper of the Year, having already posted three shutouts this season.
Atlanta, which defeated the Charge 3-2 in overtime of last year's semifinal game, is one of the hottest teams in the league right now. After starting the season 0-2, the Beat are 6-2-1 and are in third place with 19 points. The dangerous scoring combination of Charmaine Hooper and Cindy Parlow will be a good test for a Charge defense that has allowed a league-low nine goals this season.
