Philadelphia Charge News Release
Nine Charge players, including Lorrie Fair, Jenny Benson and Heather Mitts, will be on hand this Saturday, April 20 at the "Gia Nicole Angel Fund" Benefit Dinner, donating their time and money to a much needed cause.
Gia Nicole is a 10-year-old girl who has Spina Bifida, which has paralyzed her from the waist down. Doctors gave her only a 3-percent chance to live at birth, but Gia has fought against all odds and is being considered an "Angel" by Amy Corson-Nadell, who is Gia's partner in the Big Sisters of America program and the President of the "Gia Nicole Angel Fund."
The dinner is a culmination of a four-month effort to raise the money needed to purchase a wheelchair accessible van that will be used to transport Gia. Gia is gaining weight and becoming more difficult for her mother, Norma, to transport. Norma is a single parent who has dedicated the last 10 years to raising a child with special needs in the best way she can.
The Charge, who are very active throughout the Delaware Valley all summer long donating their time, have supplied prize packs, tickets for the 2002 season, autographed soccer balls and other merchandise to be raffled off as part of the fundraiser.
Once the goal is reached, the "Gia Nicole Angel Fund" will continue to raise money for other families who are struggling to purchase what their special child needs.
