Philadelphia Charge News Release

The Philadelphia Charge attempt to rebound from just their second loss of the season this Saturday when they travel to Boston to take on the Breakers at 6:00 pm at Nickerson Field. The game will not be televised, but live scoring updates can be found by visiting WUSA.com. Philadelphia (10-2-4, 34pts) enters this weekend's action in first place in the WUSA standings, one point ahead of the Carolina Courage.

The Charge relinquished a 2-0 lead on Wednesday night and lost to the New York Power, 3-2. The defeat was the first for the Charge since May 19, ending the club's league-tying 10-game unbeaten streak (6-0-4) and league-record 11-game home-unbeaten streak (8-0-3).

With a win on Saturday the Charge can move one step closer to qualifying for the playoffs for a second straight season. Philadelphia would qualify with a win and a loss or a tie by either Washington or San Jose or a loss by Atlanta. Also, if Atlanta, Washington and San Jose lose and the Charge win, Philadelphia would qualify and have homefield advantage for the August 17 Founders Cup semifinal game.

This will be the third and final meeting of the season between the Charge and Breakers. Philadelphia won the prior two meetings, both at Villanova Stadium, 4-2 and 1-0. The Charge lead the all-time series 3-2.

Philadelphia will welcome back the services of defender Heather Mitts and midfielder Stacey Tullock after the pair of starters missed the loss to New York with injuries. However, the Charge will be without forward Marinette Pichon, who did not make the trip after suffering a toe injury in the last game. Pichon is leading the league with 13 goals and is tied for the lead with 27 points.

The Charge next travel to San Jose to battle the defending Founders Cup champion CyberRays on Wednesday, July 31. The game can be seen live at 10 p.m. (ET) on CN8. Philadelphia returns home on Saturday, August 3 to battle the San Diego Spirit starting at 7 p.m. After the game, the Charge will host an on-field concert by Christian rock band TrueVIBE.
