In a ground-breaking deal for Canadian professional sports, the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced it will release a series of NFTs throughout the 2022 CEBL season in partnership with Fanaply, the leading NFT solutions provider for the biggest names in sports, music and entertainment.

This partnership marks the first time any professional Canadian sports league has entered into the NFT space. The league's 2022 NFT season initiative will offer exciting, cost-accessible NFT drops for fans throughout the season to engage and reward everyone from the newest to most passionate fans.

"As a young league, we're always looking for the newest, most exciting ways to attract fans and keep them engaged, and NFTs are a natural fit for our teams and fans. Fanaply has a long history of successful NFT partnerships with some of the biggest brands in sports and we've been so pleased to work with them on this initiative. Now for the 2022 CEBL season, fans will have a new way to support their favorite teams, access exciting digital collectibles, and showcase and be rewarded for their fandom," said Mike Morreale, CEBL Commissioner and CEO.

The CEBL is Canada's preeminent basketball league, featuring ten teams and drawing top international and Canadian players. The first NFT drop of the 2022 season will occur on May 30th, which will feature limited-edition collectible NFTs for each team. More NFT drops, ranging from in-game opportunities to collectibles commemorating unforgettable moments, to limited-edition championship tokens will be released throughout the season, which concludes in August.

"CEBL is one of the most exciting leagues in the country, and there are so many opportunities to leverage NFTs to commemorate team, player and fan milestones," said Grant Dexter, Fanaply CEO & co-founder. "Fanaply is focused on how we can create the best possible NFT experiences for fans, teams and leagues - offering something of true value for fans while supporting teams and leagues with an effective stream of revenue. The 2022 CEBL season NFT initiative will open the door for all fans to access the world of NFTs to showcase and gamify their fandom, discover new digital fan communities, and collect limited-edition NFTs from their favorite CEBL teams."

The CEBL began its fourth season on May 25th. Tickets to all games are available now at CEBL.ca/tickets. All games will be streamed live internationally on the CEBL's OTT platform, CEBL+. Games will also be available to stream live in Canada via cbcsports.ca, the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices, and the free CBC Gem streaming service.
