Many of Canada's top professional basketball players will be showcased Saturday, July 3 in a triple-header of action that begins with two games broadcast nationally on CBC and culminates with a third streamed on CBC Gem and at CEBL+.
The Hamilton Honey Badgers host the Guelph Nighthawks in their 2021 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) regular season home-opener on CBC starting at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time. The network will follow with a 4 p.m. broadcast of a semifinal matchup featuring the Canadian National Team from the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Victoria, B.C., where the Canadian men's national team is competing for a berth in the Tokyo Olympics. A 7 p.m. CEBL showdown between the Ottawa BlackJacks and Fraser Valley Bandits will be streamed globally on CBC Gem, CEBL+ available at CEBL.ca, and on Twitch to close out a full day of world class pro basketball.
"As the official pro league partner of Canada Basketball, we're excited to be sharing the national and international stage with our national team for a memorable day of the best in Canadian basketball," said Mike Morreale, CEBL commissioner and chief executive officer. "The CEBL has several players who have competed in qualifying windows for the Team Canada leading to this qualifying tournament, and Trae Bell-Haynes who is with the team now has been an outstanding player in our league the past two seasons. Saturday's triple-header provides Canadian basketball fans a rare chance to see the considerable depth of Canadian pro talent in one day."
CBC and the CEBL have a multi-year partnership that has the national broadcaster airing regular season and playoff games on weekends throughout the regular season. Fans will also be able to live stream all 49 regular season games on the CEBL's new OTT streaming service CEBL+, cbcsports.ca, the free CBC Gem streaming service, the CBC Sports App for iOS and android devices, and Twitch.
