Hannibal Cavemen News Release

(Hannibal, MO) Hannibal Cavemen General Manager and Field Manager Greg McVey announced the hiring of Chris Fletcher as an assistant coach for the 2015 season. Fletcher is currently the Assistant Baseball Coach at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO.

Chris Fletcher joined the Truman Baseball program in 2014 after serving the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater William Woods (Mo.) University. The Owls finished the 2014 season with a 39-12 overall record, an American Midwest Conference championship and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in Lawrenceville, Georgia while receiving votes in the final NAIA top 25 poll.

"I'm ecstatic to be joining the Cavemen organization in 2015", stated Fletcher. During his two seasons as an assistant at William Woods, the Owls hit .315 and averaged over seven runs per game while also boasting a .965 fielding percentage. Fletcher added, "The Prospect League is a fantastic summer league and the atmosphere the Hannibal community brings to Clemens Field makes this a great opportunity. I had the chance to watch my brother Derek (Fletcher) play for the Cavemen and that makes being part of the organization that much more special."

Cavemen General Manager and Field Manager Greg McVey added, "After talking with Chris and several of his references it became clear that he was the right person for the job. He is a passionate, dedicated and knowledgeable baseball coach. I look forward to working alongside Chris each and every day."

As a student-athlete Fletcher played two years for William Woods as an infielder. In 2011, the squad won then a school-record 36 games and won the AMC Postseason Tournament plus two wins in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament. A Moberly, Missouri native, Fletcher served as an assistant coach for the Thunder Bay Borders of the Northwood's League in the summer of 2014 and for the Pioneers in the Lewis and Clark League in 2013. During the summer of 2012, he served as the head coach for the Moberly American Legion program, leading the team to a 25-14 overall record and a district championship. In 2011, he was a mentor to Cory Embree, a 38th-round pick in the MLB Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fletcher earned his master's in Education (Athletics Administration) from William Woods and his bachelor's in Pre-Legal Studies (Criminal Justice).
