Hannibal Cavemen News Release
The Hannibal Cavemen today announced the signing of four more players for the 2013 season.
Mattingly Romanin, a sophomore infielder/outfielder from Chicago State University, brings versatility and hitting ability to the Cavemen.
Romanin, from Burlington, Ontario, Canada, is hitting .329 with 19 RBI in 23 games.
"Mattingly is a very good hitter," explained Cavemen Manager Jay Hemond. "He has hit over .300 each of his two season at Chicago State. On top of that, he can play virtually every position on the field."
The Cavemen have also signed right-hand pitcher/outfielder Jon Wandling.
A junior from Kentucky Wesleyan, Wandling is 3-3 with a 3.83 ERA and has 40 K's in 40 innings. At the plate Wandling is batting .329 in 20 games.
"Having a two-way player like Jon is a great asset," Hemond said. "He has the ability to pitch important innings and also take critical at bats for us. Jon's talent is like having two players on the roster."
Samford University will provide players for the Cavemen again this summer.
Outfielder Damon Waller and catcher Richard Greene will join the Cavemen.
Waller, 6'2", 215 lbs., is a three-time All-Regional player from his high school days in Atlanta, Georgia.
"Damon's coaches compare him to former Samford outfielder Gardner Richey," said Hemond, "which is high praise."
Richey played for the Cavemen in 2010 and batted .301 with 9 HRs and 34 RBI.
Greene, a freshman, is batting .290 and has thrown out 33% of potential base stealers.
"Richard is a quality catcher with a strong arm," explained Hemond. "Even as a freshman, he is a knowledgeable hitter. That is a rare combination."
