Catcher Mike Ryan Re-Signs with Paints
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, re-signed catcher Mike Ryan for the upcoming 2019 season.
This season will mark the third for Ryan in a Paints uniform. Last year, he hit .259 with three doubles, three triples and 12 RBIs over 19 games before an injury forced an early end to his summer.
Ryan played in 33 games for the Paints in 2017, hit three doubles, a triple and drove in 10. He also pitched one perfect inning in a July 6, 2017 game against Butler, where he struck out two of the three batters he faced.
A junior business major at Toledo, Ryan enters the 2019 college season with a career .237 batting average, 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 39 RBIs.
As a freshman in 2017, Ryan threw out 15 opposing runners, which ranked fourth in the Mid-American Conference. He finished that year by hitting .455 in the MAC Tournament.
Last spring, Ryan took over the primary catcher role for the Rockets and played in 48 games.
A native of Holly, Michigan, Ryan went to Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights, where he played four years of varsity baseball and one season of varsity basketball. As a senior, Ryan hit .487 with 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 30 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He was named First-Team All-State and First-Team All-County.
Ryan joins Toledo Rockets teammates Nate Haugh and Trace Hatfield on the 2019 Paints roster. He is the fourth player from the Paints' 2018 playoff team to sign for 2019, joining pitcher Taylor Perrett, infielder Hatfield, and outfielder Dudley Taw.
