Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

(Greensboro, NC) Greensboro Baseball, LLC announced today that the new name of the South Atlantic League Minor League Baseball team in Greensboro, NC is The Greensboro Grasshoppers.

"Minor League Baseball is all about fun and we think that our new name and logo go hand in hand with that concept," said Greensboro Grasshopper President and COO Donald Moore. "From a marketing and merchandise standpoint the Grasshoppers will be a real winner."

The Burris Agency of Greensboro, NC worked with the Grasshopper staff to design the new team logos. Team colors are forest green, burnt orange and ecru.

"We put a lot of time and thought into our new identity and we are thrilled with the outcome. The Grasshopper name and logo fits well with the color scheme and within the world of professional baseball. Soon everyone will "catch the bug' over the Greensboro Grasshoppers," said General Manager Tom Howe.

The home uniform bares the Grasshopper name across the button-down front. The jersey is a cream color accompanied with forest green and burnt orange braiding down the button-down front and along each sleeve. The home hat is solid forest green with a grasshopper on top of a cursive ‘G'.

The road uniform is forest green with the name of our home city draped across the chest. The Greensboro name is also forest green outlined with cream and burnt orange lining. The road caps bare the same logo on a cream colored cap with a forest green bill.

The official website for the Greensboro Grasshoppers is www.gsohoppers.com. It will feature ticketing information, seating charts, upcoming promotions, clubhouse information and regular updates on the new downtown ballpark. The official launch date for the website is October 4, 2004 although some pages remain under construction at this time.

"People are using the Internet more and more to gain up to date information," said Marketing and Community Relations Director Cari Powell. "Our website will be easy to navigate and simple to use. I'm sure Grasshopper fans will want to visit it everyday."

The Greensboro Grasshoppers will remain a Single-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins. "We are excited to continue the relationship with the Greensboro community as we move into the new stadium," said the Vice President of Player Development and the Assistant General Manager for the Florida Marlins Jim Fleming. "The new stadium along with the new Grasshopper name will bring forth many more exciting seasons of minor league baseball with the Florida Marlins in Greensboro, NC."

New Grasshopper merchandise is currently on sale at the gift shop at World War Memorial Stadium and local Greensboro Omega Sports stores. More merchandise will be on hand as the 2005 season approaches. Call the Grasshopper office at 336-333-2287 for purchasing information.

The previous name of the baseball team was the Greensboro Bats. The team changed its name from the Greensboro Hornets to the Greensboro Bats in 1994.
