August 18, 2003 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

Tulsa, Okla. - Arkansas's defensive specialist KAHLIL CARTER (6-1, 192, Arkansas) has been named the af2 2003 ADT Defensive Player of the Year.

The ballhawk recorded a league high of 14 interceptions in 2003, falling one short of KELLY SNELL's af2 record 15 set last season. Carter racked up league highs of 59 passes defended, 0.93 interceptions per game and interception return yards in one game with 88. Of Carter's 14 picks, two were returned for touchdowns. The Twister also recorded 63 tackles on the year.

On June 13, Carter turned in one of the best defensive performances of the 2003 season. In a 47-21 win at Bossier City, Carter picked off three passes, returning one 49 yards for a touchdown. He finished the game with three tackles and six passes defended stifling the Battle Wings offense for just 126 yards of total offense.

Carter's presence helped Arkansas's defense develop into one of the strongest in af2 after allowing just 208.4 yards a game in total defense and a paltry 192.9 pass yards per game.
