CURRY CONNECTION: Jessica Tinti has been named new President/CEO of the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce.
¬ÅThe Hyannis Chamber (housed at the JFK Hyannis Museum) is our ¬Ëlandlord ¬â¢ at the Hall of Fame and we ¬â¢ve worked closely with Jessica for the last five years, ¬Â said Cape Cod Baseball League President Judy Walden Scarafile. ¬ÅThis is great news for the Cape League and we ¬â¢ll look forward to many more years of working with Jessica and the team at the chamber. ¬Â
¬ÅCurry College is proud, but not surprised, at Jessica ¬â¢s appointment as the new CEO of the Hyannis Chamber, ¬Â said Curry President Ken Quigley. ¬ÅWith an undergraduate Curry degree, and currently studying in our MBA program, Jessica represents our great college well. We ¬â¢re very proud of her, and wish her much continued success. ¬Â
Tinti is a resident of Barnstable with eight years experience working in the chamber industry. She will complete her MBA in August and is a candidate for the certificate for Institute for Organization Management from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
¬ÅJessica has always been a huge advocate of our Hall of Fame, ¬Â said CCBL Director of Memorabilia Dan Dunn. ¬ÅThis is a big win for the CCBL. She is a great person to work with who shares our spirit for Baseball. ¬Â
There will be a welcome reception from 5:30-7 p.m. April 8 at the JFK Hyannis Museum to welcome Jessica as the new Hyannis Chamber President/CEO.
The JFK Hyannis Museum will introduce a combined single price ticket of $8 for the JFK and Cape League Hall of Fame museums.
FIELD UNIFORMITY: Bob Scotti and Steve Faucher presented recommendations of field surveys to the general managers done with the help of Sports Turf. Every CCBL field is in need of some improvements and uniformity.
HALL OF FAME: Nominations for the 12th CCBL Hall of Fame induction class are closed. The weekend format is being adjusted a little to allow for a shorter ceremony. The committee met with Diane Troy, Gary Ellis & Jim Martin at the museum to look at the space and continue to explore possible expansion and the addition of an interactive exhibit.
ROTARY HOME SHOW: The Rotary Home Show is scheduled March 26-27 with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks and CCBL hosting a booth. Cotuit also has a booth. The CCBL is also expected to have a presence at the Harwich Home Expo on April 9.
CCBL TRYOUT: The official Frank Finn Cape Cod Baseball League tryout is scheduled for May 30 in Wareham, directed by Sue Pina of Cotuit.
LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON: Back in the mid-1960s, Cranston, R.I., native Dan DeMichele starred on CCBL diamonds for Sagamore (1965-66), then Yarmouth (1967-68). After graduating from Harvard, where he was also a hockey standout, DeMichele played briefly in the Chicago Cubs organization and has since gone on to a successful real estate career in Arizona, where his son Joey is now an infielder for the No. 7 Arizona State. ¬ÅJoey D ¬Â is opening some eyes this spring, especially after his 5-for-5 performance March 12, at Auburn, where he cracked three doubles and two singles and drove in two runs. Joey spent last summer playing in the NECBL, but would love to follow in his dad ¬â¢s foot-steps and land a spot on a Cape League roster this year.
CCBL ALUMNI: Where Are They Now' After missing most of last season with rib injuries, former Falmouth Commodore Jacoby Ellsbury ( ¬â¢04) is enjoying a sizzling spring training for the Boston Red Sox, hitting .440, including a 3-for-3, two-double effort Saturday vs. the Florida Marlins when he scored three and drove in three ¬Â¦ Last season, former Wareham Gateman ( ¬â¢05) Daniel Bard of the Red Sox was one of the top setup men in baseball, averaging 10 strikeouts per game using a 99 MPH fastball and sharp-breaking curve ¬Â¦ Slugger Ryan Braun (Brewster ¬â¢04), a three-time MLB All-Star with Milwaukee, who ¬â¢s averaged 32 HR and 105 RBI in four seasons, is batting .313 in eight Cactus League games and four of his five spring hits have gone for extra-bases, including two homers. Braun will be in Boston in mid-June when the Brewers play the Red Sox in a three-game inter-league series ¬Â¦ Former Cotuit hurler Luke Hochevar ( ¬â¢03) is 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA for the KC Royals ¬Â¦ David Murphy, who starred with the Gatemen in 2001-02, is batting .259 with one HR and five RBI for Texas.
