Cannons Select Trevor Baptiste First Overall in the 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft

SPARKS, Md. - In a historic night for Major League Lacrosse that included the introduction of a new team owner, the Boston Cannons started the 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft presented by Cascade by selecting Denver faceoff specialist Trevor Baptiste.

"It feels great. It's a huge honor," Baptiste said on Lax Sports Network shortly after being selected. "I'm really excited to be able to play at the next level. I'm also definitely not overlooking the rest of the season here at DU."

The Baptiste pick by Boston came moments after MLL Commissioner Alexander Brown introduced Andre Gudger, the founder and CEO of the technology investment company, Eccalon, as the new owner of the Atlanta Blaze.

Connor Kelly (Maryland) and Connor Fields (Albany) went second and third to Atlanta and Charlotte, respectively.

The Rattlers then completed a trade with the Bayhawks to move into the number four pick and used it to select Yale standout Ben Reeves. The Bulldogs had six players drafted when the night was finished, a record for a school that entered with 12 drafted players in league history.

Chesapeake selected midfielder Ian MacKay out of Vermont with the 13th-overall pick. He became just the second player from Vermont ever selected and is the highest draft pick in school history.

The draft was held at the US Lacrosse headquarters for the first time ever. It also marked the first Collegiate Draft in the month of April.
