
Cannons and Bayhawks Set Up Three Way Tie For First Place

Boston, MA - There is a traffic jam at the top of the Major League Lacrosse standings. With the Boston Cannons win over the Denver Outlaws, and the Chesapeake Bayhawks two wins over the New York Lizards, three teams sit atop the MLL standings at 6-3. The Cannons, Bayhawks, and Outlaws are tied for first with seven games remaining on the season.
Cannons Fire Past the Outlaws
Saturday's game at Mile High had all the makings of an instant classic. The Cannons and Outlaws doing battle with a share of first place on the line.
The Cannons came out of the gates fast, scoring the game's first five goals. The Cannons chased Outlaws All-Star Goale Dillon Ward from the game after he gave up seven goals on seven shots in the first quarter.
The Cannons led 8-4 at the break before the Outlaws went on a run. Goals from Ryan Lee, Max Adler, and Tim Barber made in an 8-7 game early in the third. The Cannons soon restored order en route to a 16-13 road victory.
Zed Williams led the way for the Cannons with four goals. Mark Cockerton also registered a hat trick on the evening. Nick Marrocco stopped 16 of the Outlaws 29 shots.
Rattlers Show Signs of Life
The Dallas Rattlers officially have a heartbeat. The Rattlers started the season 0-7, and a shot at the playoffs looked bleak. The Rattlers got their first win of the season during Week 8 against the Outlaws, and looked to make it two in a row this weekend against the Atlanta Blaze.
The Rattlers quest to make it two in a row started out strong, when they took a 6-4 first quarter lead. The Blaze battled back using a dominant second quarter to take a 10-8 halftime lead. The Rattlers outscored the Blaze 8-4 in the final thirty minutes to beat the Blaze 16-14.
Bryce Wasserman pickup where he left off in the first half of the season, scoring five goals in the second half opener. Sean Sconone was solid in net, getting his second win in only his fourth start of the season. Alex Woodall of the Blaze, had his best game as a pro going 26-33 at the faceoff X.
The Rattlers are now only two games back of the Blaze in the loss column for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Bayhawks Fly Past Lizards
The Chesapeake Bayhawks pulled off a pretty impressive feat this weekend.. Two wins in two cities in the span of less than 24 hours. The Bayhawks and Lizards did battle Saturday night in Annapolis before doing it again Sunday afternoon on Long Island.
The two games couldn't have been more different. Saturday's game was a close defensive battle with the Bayhawks winning 11-9. Sunday's game was wide open with the Bayhawks blowing out the Lizards 24-7.
Colin Heacock scored ten goals in the two games. Lyle Thomspon had five goals. Defenseman Warren Jeffrey was brilliant this weekend holding Dylan Molloy to only one goal and one assist. In the second game, backup goalie Brian Phipps got his first win of the year.
Looking Ahead
The MLL season continues this weekend with three games on Saturday. The Outlaws and Bayhawks do battle with a share of first place on the line. The Blaze travel to Boston to take on the Cannons while the Rattlers look to keep their winning streak going against the New York Lizards.
