Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release

Lafayette, La. - Cane cutters are adding more firepower this season with the addition of infielders Peyton Puckett and Bennett Van Cleve. With Peyton coming from Northwest Community College and Ben Van Cleve coming from Ole Miss these two Mississippi ball players will be great depth for this summer season. We are excited to see what these men can do out here and show their talents for the Acadiana cane cutters.

5'11 and 175 pound infielder Peyton Puckett is coming from Tupelo Mississippi to join us this summer. Puckett signed to Mississippi State coming out of high school and spent the fall semester there before transferring to Northwest Community College in the spring of 2021. At Northwest Puckett batted .300 with 40 hits and sent 5 balls out the park in his lone freshman season Also added 8 doubles and 8 stolen bases in his freshman season at Northwestern.  In high school Puckett played for head coach Justin Reed at Tupelo and helped his team to an 11-1 record during his Covid-19 riddled shortened senior season. Batting a .361 and hit 7 home runs with a .555 slugging percentage, Puckett has been consistent in his baseball career and we are happy to have a strong hitting presence this summer.

Coming from Indianola, Mississippi 6'3 and 265 pound infelider Ben Van Cleve is a big body from a big school that posted a .385 batting average in his shortened junior season in 2020 at Ole Miss. With 26 at bats in 11 games and having 10 hits and posting a .500 Slugging percentage with a .529 on base percentage. Van Cleve proved that he was a threat at the plate in his junior season and was a force to be reckoned with for his senior season in 2021 posting 26 hits with 6 doubles and a triple to add to his résumé. Van Cleve also spent time at Northwestern Community College  for his freshman and Sophomore season.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters will host their 2021 home opener on Tuesday, June 8th, against the San Antonio Flying Chanclas at Fabacher Field.
