Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release
YOUNGSVILLE, La. - In a close game that had everyone on the edge of their seat until the last out, the Acadiana Cane Cutters took the championship opener from the Victoria Generals 2-1.
Starting pitcher Miguel Reyes (Hutchinson Community College) was named Powerade Player of the Game after pitching six no-hit frames and only allowing one run to score in the seventh. He struck out six batters. Lafayette Ragin' Cajun Jimmy Dobrash took over on the mound for the final two innings.
The Cane Cutters plated Rhett McCall (Lamar University) in the first inning on an RBI single from Kyle Bayles (Mississippi State). First baseman Nathan Gabryszwski scored run number two in the second on an RBI single off the bat of Mason Corbett (Texas A&M).
Gabryszwski produced some great defense at first base with three unassisted outs. He made a dive for a foul ball in front of the home dugout that would have ended the game, but the ball fell short of his glove. He would get the out regardless five pitches later with a popup. Gabryszwski's Lamar teammate, Cole Secrest also produced a spectacular throw from the outfield to get the leadoff runner out at third base. Third baseman Chandler Morris (Texas A&M) made a great catch and tag put away the runner.
The Cane Cutters will travel to Riverside Stadium in Victoria, Texas on Friday night to finish off the Texas Collegiate League Championship.
