
Cane Cutters Fall Short in Season Opener

Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release
Lafayette, La. - The Acadiana Cane Cutters fight hard and rally late in their season opener, but ultimately fall in their outing against the San Antonio Flying Chanclas 5-2.
Marcus Mott (Temple College) started strong on the mound for the Cane Cutters pitching a total of two innings with 2 strikeouts and only allowing 2 hits with 1 run scored. Chipper Menard (UL-Lafayette) followed up with 2 strikeouts while allowing 2 hits and 1 run as well. Davis Pratt (Temple College) then entered pitching 2 strikeouts with 2 runs scored in 2 innings. Jay Ward (UTSA) had a good outing pitching 3 innings with 3 strikeouts and only 1 run scored off of 2 hits.
Carson Jones (ULM) and Austin Trahan (Nicholls State) showed some impressive hitting skills each posting a .500 batting average for the night. Jones and his college teammate Chris Noble (ULM) were able to each post an RBI to the stats sheet. Returning player, Ethan Lege (Delgado), was able to score a run with a batting average of .333 on the night. The Cane Cutters came on strong in the top of the ninth with the bases loaded to end the game down 3, but just fell short of taking the lead before the final out.
The Cane Cutters will continue their series against the Flying Chanclas tomorrow in San Antonio at 7pm before heading up to Amarillo for the next road series starting June 3rd.
The Acadiana Cane Cutters will host their 2021 home opener on Tuesday, June 8th, against the San Antonio Flying Chanclas at Fabacher Field. All home games will begin at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast live on TCL TV.
