Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release

The lighting quelled the Cane Cutters winning streak as they fell to the 3-9 Texas Marshall's 5-4.

The Cane Cutters with the loss saw their record move to 11-6.

The scoring started in the top of the first for the Cane Cutters. Connor Short (University of Alabama reached safely as the second batter of the game on a one out single. Next up was Taylor Braley (Southern Miss) who had an RBI double to score the first run for either team. Braley was 4-5 on the night and scored 2 runs while also driving in 1.

Austin Hilton had a rocky start, as the starting pitcher for the Marshall's, that did not get much better after allowing the opening run in the first inning. He gave up 3 runs on 11 hits while walking 2 through 6.1 innings of work. The Marshall's answered right back with a solo home run off of the bat of David Fry in the bottom of the second inning to even the game at 1-1.

The top of the third started off very similar to the top of the first for the Cane Cutters with the top of the order up to bat. With one out Connor Short, who was 2-4 with a run scored, advanced to first with a walk. He then advanced to second on a balk, which was then followed up with a Braley single in which Short was called out trying to advance. Braley then stole second to put in scoring position. Next up was the clean-up hitter James Ziegler (Chandler Gilbert Community College). Ziegler then had an RBI double, which then scored Braley from second, making the score 2-1 for the Cane Cutters.

The starting pitcher for the Cane Cutters Nick McCarty (Notre Dame) pitched well but could not hold onto the lead as the Marshall's scored two more times right after the Cane Cutters had scored to make the game 3-1. With a 3-3 tie McCarty was pulled after 5 innings pitched in which he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 2 of the batters he faced. The next pitcher on the mound was Austin Millet (Southern Miss) who would then give up the game leading run to put the Cane Cutters behind 4-3.

In the 7th inning the game was delayed due to hazardous playing conditions as the lighting was too close for comfort. As it looked like both teams were about to trot back onto the playing field another strike occurred which pushed the game back even more. Play resumed, after an hour of delays, as a new pitcher for the Cane Cutters took the mound.

Joey Cresta (Notre Dame) was the third pitcher on the night for the team. The Cane Cutters evened it up a 4-4 but soon fell behind again 5-4. Taylor Braley then came to the plate and had a leadoff double in the top of the ninth inning. He

then advanced to third with 2 outs. After advancing to third up next was Daniel Keating (Southern Miss). Keating after a long at bat was not able to push across the final run as he struck out ending the game.

Your Cane Cutters will next be in action tomorrow night against the Marshall's from Plano Texas. It will be a double header to make up an earlier season cancellation due to weather.
