Montréal, QC - The Montréal Alliance announced Friday that Canadian forward Abdul Mohamed signed a contract with the expansion team for the 2022 season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).
The six-foot-seven Ottawa native has played the last three seasons in the NCAA's division I, with the University of North Texas in 2019-2020 and with Montana State University from 2020 to 2022. During those three collegiate seasons, Mohamed averaged 6.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists, while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from the three-point line.
"I am very fortunate to start my professional career in Canada, for a great organization in Montréal," expressed Mohamed. "I look forward to the season ahead, and I can't wait to get to work with the coaching staff and my teammates!"
Mohamed originally joined the University of North Texas in 2018 before redshirting during his first season, allowing him to play a maximum of four games without losing a year of eligibility. The Canadian played his first NCAA division I season in 2019-2020 with North Texas, playing in 15 games before joining Montana State University. This past season, Mohamed averaged 7.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists. Mohamed also recorded two double-doubles and finished the season as the team's second-best rebounder.
Prior to joining the University of North Texas, Mohamed played two seasons in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with Gillette College in Wyoming. In 66 games at Gillette College, Mohamed averaged 14.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, earning him first-team All-Region honours in his second season in the NJCAA.
An Ontario native, Mohamed attended Bell High School in Nepean before making the jump to the NJCAA with Gillette College.
Mohamed joins point guards Kemy Ossé and Alain Louis, shooting guard Isiah Osborne, forwards Dominic Green, James Jean-Marie and Nathan Cayo as well as center Marc-André Fortin and will join the team for the beginning of training camp for the 2022 CEBL season starting May 16.
