SATURDAY'S RECAPS
NORFOLK 3, Manchester 2 - Right wing Linden Vey tallied two goals and three points to help the Manchester Monarchs break the Norfolk Admirals 29-game winning streak with a 5-2 win in Game 2 to even the best-of-five 2012 Calder Cup Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series at 1-1 at the Norfolk Scope on Saturday night. Right wing Brandon Kozun, center Robbie Czarnik and left wing Andy Andreoff joined Vey (two) on the scoreboard for the Monarchs. Left wing Alexandre Picard tallied both goals for the Admirals. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (1-0) earned his first victory of the post-season, stopping 37-of-39 shots. Admirals netminder Jaroslav Janus (1-1) took his first loss of the playoffs making 25 saves on 29 shots. Manchester went 0-for-7 on the power play. Norfolk was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
Toronto 4, Rochester 3 - Left wing Jerry D'Amigo continued his post-season tear as he netted two goals against for the Toronto Marlies, including the game-winner, to defeat the Rochester Americans, 4-3, at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday. Center Mike Zigomanis and left wing Nicolas Deschamps joined D'Amigo (two) on the Marlies scoreboard. Left wing Marcus Foligno, center Phil Varone and defenseman T.J. Brennan scored for the Americans. Marlies goaltender Ben Scrivens (2-0) earned his second playoff win of the post-season with 23 saves on 26 shots. Americans netminder Dave Leggio (0-2) took his second loss of the playoffs stopping 21-of-25 shots. Toronto went 1-for-4 on the power play. Rochester was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
Connecticut 3, Bridgeport 0 - The Connecticut Whale defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 3-0, Saturday night in the second game of their best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series at the Webster Bank Arena. The Whale collected goals from left wing Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and left wing Marek Hrivik (two). Whale goaltender Cameron Talbot (2-0) earned his second consecutive shutout stopping all 41 shots he faced in Game 2. Sound Tigers netminder Kevin Poulin (0-2) took his second loss of the playoffs with 27 saves on 30 shots. Connecticut went 1-for-7 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
WB/Scranton 7, Hershey 2 - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had a four-goal outburst in the first period and skated to a 7-2 win over the Hershey Bears on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The victory gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series with Game Three on Wednesday in Hershey. Right wing Colin McDonald (two), center Zach Sill, defenseman Cody Wild, right wing Geoff Walker, center Matt Rust and center Ben Street lit the lamp for the Penguins. The Bears picked up goals from defenseman Patrick McNeill and right wing Garrett Mitchell. Penguins goaltender Brad Thiessen (2-0) stopped 14-of-16 shots for his second playoff win. Bears netminder Dany Sabourin (0-2) took his second loss of the post-season with 20 saves on 27 shots. WB/Scranton went 2-for-6 on the power play. Hershey was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
Syracuse 4, St. John's 3 - Center Brandon McMillan's third period goal gave the Syracuse Crunch a 4-3 win over the St. John's IceCaps and tied the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series 1-1 at the War Memorial Arena. Center Mark Bell, defenseman Mat Clark, left wing John Mitchell and McMillan scored for the Crunch. The IceCaps picked up goals from center Aaron Gagnon (two) and center Patrice Cormier. Crunch goaltender Iiro Tarkki (1-1) earned his first victory in the playoffs with 18 saves on 21 shots. IceCaps netminder Eddie Pasquale (1-1) took the loss stopping 36-of-40 shots. Syracuse went 1-for-5 on the power play. St. John's was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
San Antonio 4, Chicago 3 - The San Antonio Rampage held off a late charge from the Chicago Wolves to post a 4-3 victory in Game 2 of their Western Conference Quarterfinals series on Saturday night at the AT&T Center. With the win, San Antonio went ahead 2-0 in the best-of-five series. The Rampage collected goals from right wing Bill Thomas, center James Wright, center Jon Matsumoto and center Bracken Kearns. Center Kevin Doell (two) and right wing Darren Haydar scored for the Wolves. Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstrom (2-0) earned the victory stopping 36-of-39 shots. Wolves netminder Matt Climie (0-1) took the loss making 20 saves on 24 shots before being replaced by goaltender Eddie Lack (0-1) who stopped all seven shots he faced in 25 minutes of playing time. San Antonio went 3-for-5 on the power play. Chicago was 2-for-7 with the man advantage.
