The Cal League entered the record books on Saturday, April 16th when the Inland Empire 66ers and Bakersfield Blaze played a 4:55 minute 9-inning game at Sam Lynn Ball Park in Bakersfield. The game time beat the longest MLB game on record by ten minutes and it is believed to be the longest Professional Baseball 9-inning game in history. Inland Empire scored five runs in the ninth inning to win 24 to 19. The game saw 49 combined hits and 7 combined errors.

The California League has sent 18 of its former players to the Big Leagues this year. That makes 2,250 former Cal Leaguers to play at least one inning in the Majors since the League started up in 1941. The Lake Elsinore Storm have 4 former players in "The Show". Former High Desert Maverick, Michael Pineda is a Rookie of the Year candidate after his start to the Major League Season. The Seattle Mariners hurler has a 2.55 ERA and 4 wins so far this year. Former Cal Leaguer, Francisco Liriano (2003 San Jose Giants), became the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter in 2011. The current Minnesota Twins lefty no hit the Chicago White Sox last week.
