
Butte announce nickname, addition of Dessing

(Butte, MT) - Butte, Montana will be the home of the "Bandits" the All American Professional Bsketball League announced today. Additionally, Rick Dessing, the winningest coach in Montana Tech University was named Vice President of Basketball Operations/Interim Director of Sales and Marketing.
AAPBL President Worth Christie said, "We're excited to take the next step in building a team in Butte." "We think the name Bandits will give us a strong theme to work from with our entertainment, things that Bandit fans will enjoy."
In addition, Rick Dessing was introduced as Vice President of Basketball Operations/Interim Director of Sales and Marketing. Chirstie said, "It's not every day that you can add a coach the quality of Rick Dessing." Christie went on to say, "Rick not only has an outstanding record as a coach with experience both at the collegiate level and in professional basketball but he is also a well known member of this community and a high quality individual." "The AAPBL believes stongly that all of its employees must be talented and high character people and Rick is both, without a doubt."
"It's great to be back in Butte. I've always considered this to be home, " said Dessing. "I'm very excited about this opportunity, it's great to get in on the ground floor of something this well organized," Dessing went on to say. "Now it's all about getting the people of Butte as excited about this as we are." "Butte is a great sports town and I'm very confident they will support this team and league, I'm looking forward to getting this started."
Dessing if very familiar to the Butte area as he spent 17 years at Montana Tech University. During his tenure Dessing recorded a record of 255 wins and 229 losses. Dessing left Montana Tech as the winningest coach in school history. His 1989 - 90 team posted 23 wins which still stands as the school record for most wins in a season. Dessing was also at the Orediggers helm for the only two trips the school has made to the NAIA National Tournament.
In 2003, Dessing served as head coach of the Midwest Basketball Association's Magic City Snowbears, based in Minot, North Dakota guiding the team to a second place finish. The Snowbears finished 14 - 8 and just one-half game out of first place.
Dessing and his wife Lisa live in Butte with their three children; Michael, Craig and Haley.
