Butch Fisher Named Director of Umpires

CONYERS, GA - The South Coast League of Professional Baseball, the southeast's newest independent baseball league, is pleased to announce the addition of Butch Fisher as Director of Umpires. His responsibilities will include overseeing the hiring, scheduling, and supervision of the SCL's umpiring staff.

"I have put a great deal of time and energy into developing a model of supervision that is unique to Independent Baseball," shared Fisher. "This model goes beyond the usual definition of supervision and sets clear standard and expectations for umpires."

Butch brings 40 years of umpiring, supervisory and training experience to the South Coast League. As a former Minor League Professional Umpire, Butch finished his professional career in Texas at the Double-A level. In 1993 he accepted the position of Umpire Supervisor for the Northern Independent Professional Baseball League and retained that position through 2004.

"Butch has been very successful throughout his career in umpiring and his track record speaks for itself," shared South Coast League CEO Jaime Toole. "We look forward to working with him and establishing a productive relationship with our umpiring staff."

Besides the supervisory role, Fisher will also act as a liaison between the umpiring staff and the commissioner's office in determining fines and suspensions as a result of on field misconduct. Fisher takes great pride in his work and demands only the best from his staff.

"This model demands professionalism and expects continuous growth and improvement, resulting in a staff of extremely committed individuals," said Fisher, "To date, 15 of the umpires I worked with have been hired by affiliated baseball."

Butch is a native of Minnesota and with his wife Linda, has bred and shown German Shepherds for the past 25 years.

The South Coast League's inaugural 90-game season opens in May of 2007. The SCL is a six-team based independent professional baseball league located in the Southeastern U.S.
