Waikiki BeachBoys News Release
Buster Posey returned from his brief stint at San Francisco's Instructional League, and promptly posted three hits and drove in four to lead Waikiki past West Oahu, 8-5, this afternoon at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu.
Posey, the No. 5 overall selection by the Giants in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, increased his batting average to .474 and notched his second double of the season. Teammate and fellow San Francisco farmhand Roger Kieschnick chipped in a three-run double in the first inning, and Tony Thomas Jr. collected two hits including his fourth triple in support of Waikiki.
The BeachBoys (8-11) jumped on CaneFires starter Cody Scarpetta (0-1) with four runs in the first inning as the Milwaukee Brewers prospect allowed the first six batters he faced to reach base in his Hawaii Winter Baseball debut. Through three innings, Scarpetta surrendered four runs on five hits and struck out four.
Andrew Brackman, a first-round pick in the 2007 draft by the New York Yankees, improved to 2-3 on the season thanks to a solid five innings through which he gave up an earned run on five hits and struck out five. Jeremy Papelbon closed things down in the ninth inning to earn his second save.
West Oahu (10-9) received two hits, including a double, and two RBIs from center fielder Greg Burns, while teammates Miles Durham and Brian Friday chipped in two hits apiece.
The teams return to Hans L'Orange Park tomorrow at 3 p.m. for the finale of a two-game series.
