Durham Bulls News Release
Durham NC - Elijah Dukes chipped in four of Durham's 20 hits as the Bulls notched a 10-7 victory over the Columbus Clippers on Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Every starter hit safely, and seven Bulls had multi-hit performances as the Bulls won their second straight game to open their eight-game homestand.
Dukes led the way with three runs scored, a home run, three runs driven in and a stolen base. Newcomers Ben Zobrist and Wes Bankston also contributed, as Zobrist went 2-5 with two runs scored, one RBI and a walk, while Bankston went 3-5 with a run scored and three driven in. Kevin Witt added two doubles, and his International League-leading 64th RBI of the season. Terrence Long went 2-5 for the Clippers, including an eighth-inning home run that gave Juan Salas his first earned runs on the season, after going 47.1 innings between Montgomery and Durham without allowing one. It also snapped Salas' 12.1 inning scoreless streak while with the Bulls.
Brian Stokes (6-4) got the win for the Bulls, going five innings while allowing three runs on two hits and two walks, while striking out two. Seth McClung picked up his second save of the season and in as many nights, getting the final two outs while striking out one. Aaron Small (1-1) took the loss for the Clippers, going three and two-thirds innings while allowing six runs on 11 hits and a walk, while striking out one.
Durham looks to continue their winning ways against Columbus tomorrow night, as RHP Doug Waechter (1-4) pitches against RHP Jeff Karstens (0-5) at 7:00 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
