ST. LOUIS (June 20, 2007) - Bud Light and Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have signed a two-year deal that will expand the league's online offerings and reach an even greater audience through Bud Light-branded Web sites as part of the beer's renewal as the Official Beer of the MLL.
The agreement extends Bud Light's position as the Official and Exclusive Malt Beverage and Alcohol Sponsor of Major League Lacrosse, its 10 teams, the MLL All-Star Game and postseason. Bud Light also remains the title sponsor of the popular Bud Light All-Star Skills Challenge, the Bud Light MLL MVP Award, the Bud Light Play of the Week and as the jersey sponsor of the Washington Bayhawks.
The MLL Plays of the Week highlight reel, along with select Challenge and MVP nominee performances, will be featured in a permanent Bud Light-branded window on majorleaguelacrosse.com and budlight.com.
"Lacrosse is one of our nation's fastest growing sports, with a large following among core 21-27 year-old beer drinkers, and we hope to share the league's and players' enthusiasm for the MLL through Bud Light's Web presence and promotions," said Tony Ponturo, vice president, global media and sports marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "It's been a great partnership for both parties since 2001, and we're looking forward to helping the MLL continue to grow over the next several years."
"Once again Anheuser-Busch has proven it is committed to the sport of lacrosse and the fans which support this wonderful sport," said MLL Founder Jake Steinfeld, CEO of Body by Jake Global. "I know the partnership will be essential as Major League Lacrosse looks to grow and reach even more adults"
In addition, Bud Light is developing a lacrosse-specific ad to air during the beer's dedicated commercial spots on all national MLL broadcasts.
Last season, Bud Light, Major League Lacrosse and ESPN made history with the first-ever live webcast of the New Balance Championship Weekend MLL Semifinals from the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. with television-quality broadcasts available on espn.com and www.budlight.com.
