Albany Panthers News Release

ALBANY, GA (May 15, 2010) - With the club rejuvenated with re-joining of some former players and coaches, on Saturday night the Louisiana Swashbucklers (2-4) were offered no parlay as the Albany Panthers (5-0) remained undefeated and in first place after a 43-35 victory.

Much of the anticipation of this weeks match up in Albany had been made due to the recent changes by the Swashbucklers including the dismissal of a head coach and the return of a former head coach. Even with a resurgence of five new player additions to the roster, the Swashbucklers 2010 road woes continued to persist as Louisiana dropped their third consecutive game and fourth overall on the road.

When it appeared like the first club to reach the 30-point plateau would win this game, you had to wonder where did things go wrong Saturday night for the Swashbucklers. In a game that was seemingly dominated by both defenses, the Louisiana offense out gained the Panthers by 62 yards and was 7 of 11 on third down conversions while suffering only one turnover.

Both teams opened with stagnant offenses contributed by a combined five missed field goals. Thanks better play on special teams, the Panthers went into the break with a five point 11-6. Much of the weak play on offense for Albany was due to the club missing starting quarterback Cecil Lester with a sore ankle.

Despite a mid-week signing of former South Georgia Wildcat quarterback Andrico Hines, the Panthers elected to start back-up Jeffery Aaron who up until this point had completed just one pass this season. Aaron wasn't given much of a large string and was pulled for Hines after completing seven passes for just 28 yards.

Hines proved to be more effective and the Panthers offense rolled behind his 12 of 20 passing for 143 yards and four touchdowns. After missing last week's game, wide receiver Clenton Raffe returned to grab nine receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns while last weeks SIFL Offensive Player of the Week Antwontis Cutts collected five receptions for 49 yards and one score.

Aaron wasn't the only quarterback replaced Saturday as Bucs quarterback Alvin Bartie was taken out for a more effective Sammy Knight. After replacing Bartie, Knight led a second half surge by the Bucs which included the new QB completing 12 of his 19 passes for 149 yards and four touchdowns.

But two touchdowns by the Panthers, one at the end of the third and beginning of fourth, had the Swashbucklers playing catch up for the rest of the fourth quarter. Albany played efficiently not turning the ball over once while the proved to once again dominant holding an opponent to less than 35 points for the third consecutive game.

Saturday's contest was the first of back-to-back match ups between these two clubs with the next game taking place next Saturday May 22nd this time taking place in the Smugglers Den with the Panthers straying away from home for the first time this season.
