Tampa Bay Storm News Release

Zephyrhills, FL - Tampa Bay Storm quarterback, Brett Dietz spoke to the students of Raymond B. Stewart Middle School in Zephyrhills Tuesday, October 28th, about the importance of being drug-free, especially as an athlete. To help raise awareness among the population of approximately 1,000 students, Dietz gave a brief discussion on the risks of drugs, how to handle peer pressure, answered questions from the students, and signed autographs.

"Teaching kids about drug awareness at an early age and giving the right message is important," said Dietz, "I was really glad to be a part of it."

Each year from October 23 to October 31, the Red Ribbon Campaign, which is the largest and oldest drug prevention program in the country, seeks to reach millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week. Chris Snyder, a counselor and the coordinator of Red Ribbon Week at Stewart, organized a week filled with guest speakers to address the students about drug awareness. "It is tremendous to get a professional athlete to come speak to the students," said Snyder. "It's nice to get it done in a short amount of time and still get the message across."

The Tampa Bay Storm look forward to next season with many key players from 2008 returning. All-Arena defensive lineman Tim McGill, quarterback Brett Dietz, wide receivers Hank Edwards and Tyrone Timmons among others will be back to take the 2009 AFL season by storm.
