Orange County SC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Orange County Blues FC gained their first win on the road against the 2014 USL champions, Sacramento Republic FC, Friday night at Bonney Field, with a final score of 2-1, despite playing a man down the majority of the second half.
Orange County managed to keep their 2-1 score against a pressing Sacramento with goals from Dutch forward Denzel Slager, who outran Republic defenders with his speed and netted his first goal of the season in the 43rd minute. The second goal of the night was scored by captain Didier Crettenand just seconds into the second half when he shot a ball past former Blues goalkeeper Patrick McLain off of a pass from Christofer Ramirez. Republic FC's only goal of the night was scored 7 minutes into the match by captain Justin Braun off a pass from James Kiffe.
The Blues had a rough start with rain coming down and a slippery pitch but pushed to get a goal in. First two minutes, forward Denzel Slager took a shot that went wide of the Republic goal. Midfielder Nikola Ilich also took a chance on goal but the ball went straight into the hands of McLain.
The visiting team lost a man when Luka Petricevic received a straight red card ejection after a studs up tackle in the 59th minute. A sturdy Blues backline of Jimmy Turner, Romeo Filipovic, Brenton Griffiths, and Josh Suggs held strong for 30 minutes to keep the Blues ahead and take home the victory.
Up next, Orange County travels up to Seattle and Portland to take on the MLS teams for the first time. Both games will be streamed live on YouTube.
