
Blizzard Split to Gain Ground on Minot

The Brookings Blizzard split their weekend series on the road against the Minnesota Wilderness winning 3-2 in overtime on Friday but falling 5-0 on Saturday night.
The Blizzard had to battled back from an ealry 2-0 deficit to get their 16th win on the year.
The WIlderness go on the board early when Jaycob McCombs scored at the 3:30 mark of the first period. Just sixteen seconds later it was Darian Romanko who gave the Wilderness the 2-0 lead.
Later in the first period Wyatt Schmidt scored a power play goal to cut the lead to one. Evan Hesse and Michele Marchetti were credited with the assists.
The Blizzard were out shot 27-10 in the first two periods but out shot the Wilderness 7-2 in the final period of regulation. 8:55 into the third period Ryan Sete tied the game 2-2. Schmidt and Jeff Flicker has the assists.
The game went to overtime and in the extra frame Evan Hesse scored with 1:55 to play off of the assist from Wyatt Schmidt, who had a three point night, and Nick DeCenzo.
With the win Friday the Blizzard moved to within four points of Minot for the final playoff spot.
On Saturday night the Wilderness got the best of the Blizzard, taking the second game of the weekend series 5-0. Nolan Culver scored twice for the Wilderness who out shot the Blizzard 34-29. Kasimir Kaskisuo had the shutout victory in net for the Wilderness stopping all 29 Blizzard shots.
The Blizzard will be home for two games this weekend against the Aberdeen Wings. The puck will drop both Friday and Saturday at 7:15pm at the Larson Ice Center.
