Blizzard Fall to Bismarck at Home
March 4, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Brookings Blizzard News Release
After a disappointing 5-1 loss to the Bobcats last Wednesday night, it appeared the Blizzard had corrected their mistakes in the first period of Saturday night's game at the Larson Ice Center.
In the first period the Blizzard took a 3-0 lead with less than six minutes to play in the frame when Aidan Cavallini scored his 9th goal of the season. But the Bobcats would respond in a big way. They scored six unanswered goals, including four on the power play, and walked away with a 6-3 victory and a five-point lead over the Blizzard in the Central Division.
Conor Andrle scored the game's first goal at the 8:36 mark of the first period. Assisting on the goal was Craig Lindegard and Derek Sand. Later in the period Andrle received a cross checking major penalty and a game misconduct. He will have to sit out of Thursday's game against Aberdeen.
At the 12:14 mark of the first, Blizzard defenseman Jared Docken would score a power play goal off the assist from Justin Moody and Nikita Sokolov.
After Cavallini's goal, Filip Starzynski would get a power play goal of his own and the Blizzard took a 3-1 lead into the break.
Bismarck would score two more power play goals in the second period and the game was tied 3-3 going into the final period.
Nate Repensky, who scored twice, netted the Bobcats' forth-straight power play goal of the game at the 3:38 mark of the third. Bob Kinne and Evan Giesler scored the final two goals of the game to seal the 6-3 victory for the Bobcats.
The Blizzard will be back in action this Thursday night at the Larson Ice Center for the ninth game of the SoDak Shootout against the Aberdeen Wings. The Blizzard are 6-2 against their in-state rivals this season. The Blizzard currently sit in third place in the division, five points behind Bismarck who are in second place. The game will start at 7pm.
