Blizzard Drop Games 1 & 2 in Bismarck
April 14, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Brookings Blizzard News Release
The Brookings Blizzard fell to the Bismarck Bobcats in the first two games of the NAHL Central Division Playoffs over the weekend.
The Blizzard traveled to Bismarck on Friday to take on the second seeded Bobcats and it was all Bobcats from start to finish. Matt Anders got Bismarck on the scoreboard just under three minutes into the game.
Brookings would answer four minutes later when Thomas Williams scored off the assist from Derek Sand and Evan Hesse.
Then with 15 seconds to play in the first period Evan Giesler would find the net and Bismarck would go into the break up 2-1.
In the second Patrick Moore scored his first of two goals in the period just 45 seconds into the period. Seth Blair, who recorded a hat trick in the game, scored his first goal at the 15:39 mark of the period to put the Bobcats up 4-1.
In the third period, Eetu Karvinen would score for the Blizzard and Thomas Williams would find the back of the net for the second time in the game but it was not enough as the Bobcats would take game one by a score of 8-3.
On Saturday night the Blizzard came out much stronger than they did on Friday. Tyler Cayemberg broke a 0-0 tie at the 7:17 mark of the period scoring off the assists from Cody Marooney and Conor Andrle.
Seth Blair, who was the star Friday night, evened things up late in the period and the Blizzard and Bobcats went into the intermission tied at one.
Eric Brenk would regain the lead for the Blizzard at the 7:24 mark of the second period on a nice shot after Evan Hesse won a faceoff.
Bismarck would answer again scoring twice more in the period and taking a 3-2 lead into the break. After Bismarck took a 4-2 lead in the third period, Brenk would score again to make it 4-3. But Bismarck would prove to be too much for the Blizzard to handle, scoring twice more and winning game two by a score of 6-3.
The Blizzard and the Bobcats will square off again next Friday night at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings for game three of the series. It will be the first ever NAHL playoff game played in Brookings. The puck will drop at 7:30pm.
If the Blizzard win game three, game four will be Saturday night at 7:30pm in Brookings.
