Blaze, Bayhawks, Rattlers Grab Wins During Week Ten

August 12, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

Boston, MA - There is a new team atop the Major League Lacrosse standings. The Chesapeake Bayhawks improved to 7-3 on the season following a 12-9 win over the Denver Outlaws this weekend. The Outlaws and Boston Cannons both lost, dropping them to 6-4, which is tied for second in the MLL standings.

Week Ten Storylines

Atlanta Blazes Past the Cannons

The Atlanta Blaze came into Week Ten needing a win, with the Dallas Rattlers right on their heels in the standings. The Blaze felt the pressure and delivered. Atlanta used a strong first half to pace themselves to a 14-13 road victory.

Shayne Jackson led the way for the Blaze, scoring four goals and adding an assist. Bryan Cole, Brendan Sunday, Tommy Palasek and Christian Mazzone combined for nine goals on the evening. Blaze goalie, Chris Madalon, made 13 saves on 26 Cannons shots.

James Burr, Mark Cockerton, and Zed Williams each had multi-goal performances for the Cannons.

Bayhawks Win Battle for First

The Bayhawks and Outlaws descended on Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday with first place on this line. The Outlaws has lost two in a row, while the Bayhawks were coming off back-to-back wins over the New York Lizards.

The Bayhawks flexed their muscles in the second quarter, outscoring the Outlaws 6-0 in the second frame. The Hawks had a 9-2 lead at halftime and never looked back en route to a 12-9 home victory.

The Bayhawks got contributions from their biggest stars with Lyle Thompson netting a hat trick while Colin Heacock and Steele Stanwick scored two goals apiece. Niko Amato made 13 stops on 22 Outlaws shots.

Outlaws faceoff specialist Max Adler put up one of the greatest performances in MLL history. He was an astonishing 23-24 at the faceoff X. The 95.8% is the greatest faceoff percentage in a single game in MLL history.

Rattlers Keep the Good Times Rolling

Famed Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi once said "it's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up." The Dallas Rattlers got knocked down early in the season, to the tune of seven consecutive losses to start their 2019 campaign. Despite the rough start to the season, it seems that the Rattlers have gotten back up. The Rattlers came into their Week Ten matchup with the Lizards on a two-game winning streak, still with a shot to make the postseason.

The Rattlers grabbed their first home win of the season this weekend in a 15-11 win over the New York Lizards. Bradley Voigt led the way with four goals, while Bryce Wasserman, Ryan McNamara, and Cody Radziewicz all registered hat tricks. One area of concern for the Rattlers going forward was their inability to win faceoffs. The Rattlers won only 8 of 30 draws on the evening.

Looking Ahead

The Major League Lacrosse season continues this Saturday with all six teams in action. The Blaze travel to Long Island to take on the Lizards while the Cannons take on the Bayhawks in Annapolis, and the Outlaws head to Frisco to take on the Rattlers.
