Big Texas Holds on to Defeat the Gladiators

Smithfield, NC: Big Texas (Jacksonville, NC) and the Carolina Gladiators (Smithfield, NC) squared off Sunday afternoon at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center. Carolina built an early 18 point lead, but Big Texas stormed back quickly, trailing just 45-42 at the break. The game remained tight through the second half, but a season-high 29 turnovers by the Gladiators were too much to overcome. Big Texas (2-2) finished strong, winning 106-102. Big Texas was led by guard Dana Pickett, Jr. who scored 32 points. Carolina forward and Mount Olive College standout Kason Cheeks scored a league-record 40 points and pulled 17 rebounds. The Gladiators (1-3) host the Fayetteville Crossover (1-2) this Saturday in Smithfield.
