BGSU's Jay Ward Signs with Paints

March 15, 2019 - Prospect League (Prospect) - Chillicothe Paints News Release

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Left-handed pitcher Jay Ward has signed to play for the Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, for the upcoming 2019 season, which begins Thursday, May 30.

A native of Lake Villa, Ill., Ward is in his freshman season at Bowling Green State University, playing with former Paints Neil Lambert (2017), Gama Martinez (2018) and Damon Egnor (2018).

Ward was a standout at Carmel Catholic High School, ranked as the No. 20 left-handed pitcher in Illinois. He had a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois-Springfield when he got the opportunity to throw a bullpen in front of a BGSU coach. A short time later, he was committed to play for the Falcons.

Described by many as highly competitive, Ward was a top pick of Team Brown captains last October for the program's annual Orange/Brown World Series.

The 5-foot-11, 158-pound, Ward is the 19th player to sign with the 2019 Paints. Prospect League rules allow teams to carry up to 32 players at one time.

The 2019 Chillicothe Paints season begins Thursday, May 30, at VA Memorial Stadium against the Champion City Kings at 7:05 p.m. The Chillicothe Gazette presents a FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA by 94 Country and draft beer will be just $1 for Thirsty Thursday. The Paints have made the playoffs seven times in the 10 seasons since joining the Prospect League as a charter member in 2009. The Paints regularly lead the Prospect League in attendance with an average of nearly 2,000 fans per game and are one of the highest-attended collegiate wood-bat summer teams in the country.
