Benitez leads former WBA players in LNBP All Star game in Mexico

September 16, 2005 - World Basketball Association (WBA) News Release


The LNBP All Star Game will take place in the Auditorio Benitez on September 15th pitting foreign players against Mexican players. WBA Coach Ricky Benitez, who is now the Head Coach at Victoria (LNBP), will lead the foreign All-star team, comprised of mostly American players, including three former WBA players.

Victor Mariscal will look to defend his three point shooting title ,while Jamaal Thomas attempts to fly high again in the 2005 dunk contest.

Luis Manuel Lopez of Santos and Angel Gonzalez of the Halcones of Xalapa will lead the following national players as coaches: Florentino Chavez, Correcaminos Victoria; Alonso Izaguirre and Oscar Castellanos, Halcones UV; Omar Lopez, Victor Avila and Victor Mariscal, Halcones of Xalapa; Richard Lopez, La Ola, Enrique Zuniga and Jorge Rochin, Lechugueros; David Crouse, Lobos UAC, Arim Solares and Hector Nungaray, Santos Reales and Anthony Norwood, Tecos UAG.

On the foreign side, Jose Martinez, Fuerza Regia and Ricky Benitez , Correcaminos of Victoria will lead a solid foreign squad made up of the following players: Byron Johnson, Algodoneros; Antonio Robertson, Barreteros; Lamont Roland, Correcaminos of Matamoros; Galen Robinson, Correcaminos of Reynosa; Jamall Thomas, Fuerza Regia; Reggie McKoy of Tijuana Galgos (MEX), Galgos of Tijuana; Antonio Rivers and Carlus Groves of the Halcones UV; Sam Bowie, Halcones Xalapa; Boubacar Aw, La Ola; Reggie Jordan, Lechugueros; Myron Allen (181-G-79) of Lobos Grises de la UAD Durango (MEX) , Lobos Grises UAD; Matt Mitchell, Panteras; Darryl Hepburn, Tuberos.

Benitez has lead Victoria to an 8-3 record since taking over as Head Coach. He served as Head Coach and GM for the Southern Crescent Lightning and Gainesville Knights of the WBA this past season. Roland, McKoy and Allen are all former WBA players. Allen was named WBA Rookie of the Year this past season.
