COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Machine have signed former Ohio State All-American defenseman Ben Randall to a three-year contract extension through 2021, the team announced today.

Randall was initially selected by the Charlotte Hounds 14th overall at the 2018 Major League Lacrosse Draft, before the Machine traded for him on June 19. In the 11 games played in his rookie season, Randall led the league with 19 caused turnovers and scooped 31 ground balls.

"I'm grateful to get three more years of lacrosse with the Machine," Randall said. "It means a lot to have the chance to continue to represent and grow the game in my hometown state. I'm excited to see where this team can go."

A soon-to-be graduate of The Ohio State University and a native of Mason, Ohio, Randall was the first player in program history to earn back-to-back USILA first team All-American honors. Randall was also a 2018 First Team All-Big Ten honoree and a Tewaaraton Award Top 25 nominee. During his time at Mason High School, Randall was named a US Lacrosse All-American and received first team all-region and second team all-state honors.

"We're really excited about what Ben brings to the table for us," Machine Head Coach and General Manager Bear Davis said. "He raised a lot of eyebrows when we had the chance to plug him into our defense after the trade back in June. We feel that we can build something special for the future on our back line, and we're excited that Ben is a key part of it. His commitment to the state of Ohio is also never overlooked, and we look forward to having one of our own help us in our efforts to grow the game across the state."

"Ben represents everything we stand for," Machine president Ryan Chenault said. "He is a tremendous player on the field, an incredible teammate in the locker room, and most importantly a great person. We're excited to have him in the fold for the years to come."

The signing coincides with the MLL's commitment to investing in its players and further enhancing the quality of competition on the field.
