Bellingham Slam Announces 2013 Season Schedule

March 20, 2013 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -The Bellingham Slam has announced its schedule for the 2013 International Basketball League season today. The season, which will be the Slam's eighth since starting in 2005 and its sixth as a member of the IBL, begins in mid-April and will feature ten regular season home games.

The Slam will begin their defense of the 2012 IBL Championship at home on April 19 as they host the Vancouver Volcanoes, a team that has emerged as Bellingham's chief rival after the two teams have eliminated each other in the playoffs the last two seasons. Most recently, the Slam dismissed the Volcanoes from title contention in the semi-finals of last year's IBL postseason tournament held in Bellingham.

In addition to their slate of contests at Whatcom Pavilion, the Slam will also play two home games in greater Whatcom County. On May 17, the Slam will host a game at Lynden High School and on June 2 they will return to head coach Rob Ridnour's familiar home court at Blaine High School. Both games will continue a well-received initiative the Slam started in 2010 of bringing its professional basketball games to fans outside of Bellingham.

The Slam's slate of home games features an impressive assortment of opponents making their way to Whatcom County, with teams from Texas, California and Japan scheduled to make visits.

"Our fans will be in a for a real treat as we have a great variety of talented opponents visiting Bellingham, including several teams new to the IBL that we'll be getting our first look at," commented Slam general manager Kip Leonetti. "But there is no doubt we're going to be tested right away with back-to-back games against a very tough Vancouver team to start the season."

Also, for the sixth consecutive season, the Slam will host an afternoon game on Memorial Day, May 27, as they face the Portland Chinooks in a rematch of the 2012 IBL Championship game.

Bellingham will be among ten teams competing this season in the IBL, which features franchises from across North America. The regular season runs through July 1 and is followed by the league's playoff tournament July 5-7 at a yet to be determined location.

Season tickets for the Slam's 2013 campaign are currently on sale, and single game ticket will go on sale April 1. Single game tickets cost just $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 for children.

Season ticket holders save 50 percent off of single game ticket prices.
