Bellingham Slam Announces 2012 Season Schedule
March 6, 2012 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam has announced its schedule for the 2012 International Basketball League season today. The season, which will be the Slam's seventh since starting in 2005 and its fifth as a member of the IBL, begins in April and will feature a 20-game schedule with ten regular season home games.
For the first time since 2008, the Slam will begin the regular season on the road with a game against the Olympia Reign on Friday, April 20. The Slam's home opener will come the next night, on April 21, as they face the Salem Soldiers in the first of nine home games at Whatcom Pavilion.
In addition to their slate of contests at Whatcom Pavilion, the Slam will also play one home game in Blaine on Saturday, June 2 against Salem at Blaine High School . The Blaine contest continues an initiative the Slam started of bringing its professional basketball games to fans in greater Whatcom County, which started last season with a game played in Lynden.
The Slam's slate of home games features a greater assortment of opponents than seen in recent years, with teams from Florida, Canada and even Japan slated to make the trip to Bellingham this season.
"Our fans will be treated to a great variety of opponents with eight different teams visiting Bellingham, including several who haven't made the trip up here in a number of years," commented Slam General Manager Bob Hofstetter. "We've also circled May 11 on our calendar as we will have our first chance to face the Volcanoes, who knocked us out of the playoffs last year."
Also, for the fifth consecutive season, the Slam will host an afternoon game on Memorial Day, May 28, as they face a touring squad from Japan that will feature some of the best players from that country's professional leagues.
Before the regular season gets underway for the Slam, the team will host an exhibition game for the first time in team history on Friday, April 13 at Lynden High School . Additional details regarding this event will be forthcoming.
Bellingham will be among ten teams competing this season in the IBL, which features franchises from across North America . The regular season runs through July 1 and is followed by the league's playoff tournament July 6-8 at a yet to be determined location.
Season tickets for the Slam's 2012 campaign are currently on sale, and single game ticket will go on sale April 2. Single game tickets cost just $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 for children. Season ticket holders save 50 percent off of single game ticket prices.
