KENNESAW, GA (December 22, 2011) - The Atlanta Beat of Women's Professional Soccer have agreed to terms for the 2012 season (pending league approval) with forward Rebecca Moros.
Moros is a three-year WPS veteran who began her career with the Washington Freedom during the league's 2009 inaugural season. During that season, she scored two goals, including one on a game-winner, and she started 13 of her 19 appearances. Moros remained with the Freedom for 2010 season which featured starts in all 23 matches, including a playoff game against the Philadelphia Independence.
"Rebecca can play left back, right back, both outside mid positions and you could even throw her up top if you needed," said Beat head coach James Galanis. " I think her most impressive qualities are her skills and her game sense. She knows how to read the game, and she is really good in tight spaces."
Moros signed with magicJack on Feb. 3, 2011, before joining the Western New York Flash (WNY) on July 7. As a front runner for the Flash, she started 11 of 17 appearances and logged 1098 minutes.
"She's a versatile player," said Galanis. "Every time I have seen her play, she has been one of the top five players on the field, every time. She is very consistent in her performances, and she seems to always have a solid game."
After spending a large part of 2011 with the Flash, Moros explained her sentiments approaching 2012 with the Beat. "I always had a great time playing in Atlanta," she said. "In talking to head coach James Galanis, I really enjoy his philosophy and his outlook on me as a player and where I will fit in with the team. I really have a good feeling here."
"The stadium is flawless; the field is beautiful; the pitch is always watered, and there is a brand of quick soccer and good ball movement that will be exciting play. I think that's what makes it fun for the fans to watch. I think the fans get really involved and they seem to be enthusiastic with the team. I have even had some Freedom fans come down to watch me play in Atlanta since they couldn't see us in D.C. or with magicJack. They told me that even they enjoyed coming to watch the game in Atlanta."
Prior to playing in WPS, Moros was a four-year starter at Duke and ties for fifth in career assists for Blue Devils. She was an NSCAA All-American Third Team selection in 2006, a three-time All-ACC selection (2004-06), three-time Soccer Buzz All-Region selection (2004-06), and a two-time NSCAA All-Region selection (2004-05). In 2004, she led Duke with 11 assists, including a single game record of four assists.
Moros will report to preseason with the Atlanta Beat on March 1, 2012.
