Beat on the Road for Last Match of the Season
KENNESAW, Ga. - The Atlanta Beat of Women's Professional Soccer travel to Sahlen Stadium in Rochester, NY to face Western New York Flash on Sunday, Aug. 14 for their final match of the 2011 season at 6:00 p.m. EST.
On Saturday, Aug. 6, the Beat and WNY met head-to-head at KSU Soccer Stadium on PUMA's Project Pink night. The match was a hit, bringing out 7,112 fans and accounting for the Beat's second highest attendance of the season and third highest attendance all-time. The match resulted in a 2-0 Flash win with both goals scored by Marta in the first half.
These teams have met three times prior to this weekend's match. The first game was played at KSU Soccer Stadium on April 24 and ended in a 2-2 tie. In that match, Beat captin Lori Chalupny and midfielder Carli Lloyd scored the Beat's two comeback goals while Christine Sinclair and Marta scored for WNY. The second match was played at Sahlen Stadium on May 1 in Rochester and resulted in a 3-0 WNY victory. Sinclair scored two in that match, and Alex Morgan put one away as well.
Sunday's match will stand as the Beat's final match of the 2011 WPS season and will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel. WNY has complied a record of 12-2-3, which has put them in the top spot in standings. They are guaranteed a spot in playoffs, which begin August 17.
