Beat Name Galanis 2011 Coach

October 4, 2010 - Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) - Atlanta Beat News Release

KENNESAW, GA (October 4, 2010) - Atlanta Beat General Manager Shawn McGee today announced James Galanis as the 2011 head coach of the Women's Professional Soccer club.

"He is well-respected in the coaching community and has helped develop some of the world's top female soccer players," said McGee.

Galanis accepted the interim position on Tuesday, Aug. 17 with just four days of preparation leading into his first WPS match. In that match, he led the Beat to a 3-2 road victory over the Boston Breakers, snapping a three-game skid and earning the club it's first win over the New England opponent.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity," said Galanis. "I am looking forward to building a team from scratch as I improve their skills, tactically implement my philosophy and mentally turn them into real thinkers of the game who never give up."

Under Galanis, the Beat scored five goals in three games and preserved a clean sheet in their final home match of the 2010 season.

"James was instrumental in getting the Atlanta Beat back into competitive form at the end of the 2010 season," said McGee, "and we expect him to be successful in leading the Beat to the playoffs in 2011."
