
Bears QB Jim Miller To Participate In Flyers HR Derby On June 22

SCHAUMBURG, IL- Chicago Bears QB Jim Miller is among those scheduled to participate in Kittle's Celebrity Home Run Challenge, a Schaumburg Flyers pre-game charity event slated for Saturday, June 22 at Alexian Field. The home run challenge is scheduled to begin at 6 PM, prior to that night's Flyers-Sioux City game. Kittle's Celebrity Home Run Challenge will be sponsored by the Heidenhain Corp.
Former White Sox slugger Ron Kittle, the Flyers Director of Business Development, will pick up the bat once again and lead Kittle's Krushers, a team of Chicago sports personalities, in a distance-hitting competition with a squad of Bears players featuring Miller and long snapper Patrick Mannelly. Mannelly is the brother-in-law of Flyers Pitcher Tommy John III. Former Chicago Bulls center Dave Corzine is among those scheduled to participate as a member of the Krushers. Efforts to secure other participants for both teams are ongoing.
Each team will take aim at a series of âmoney zones' designed to raise funds for charitable causes. Kittle's Krushers will swing the bat for the charitable arm of Alexian Brothers Hospital Network while Miller, Mannelly & Co. will step to the plate for Bears Care. A pair of âmoney zones' will be marked off in the stadium's outfield and charity funds will also be credited to any ball hit out of Alexian Field. The top distance hitters from each team will advance through the first two rounds and a tournament winner will be crowned in the third round.
Kittle, 44, was the 1983 American League Rookie of the Year as a member of the AL West Champion White Sox. He managed the Flyers from 1999-2001.
Miller, 31, emerged as a marquee athlete in the Windy City last fall, setting career highs across the board as the Bears won their first NFC Central title since 1990.
Corzine, 46, played for the Bulls from 1982-89 during a 13-year NBA career.
Mannelly, 27, has been the Chicago Bears long snapper since 1998.
