
BeachBoys Douse CaneFires, Notch First Win

Waikiki picked up its first win of the 2008 Hawaii Winter Baseball campaign with an 11-2 victory over West Oahu tonight at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park.
The BeachBoys (1-4) became the last of the four HWB teams to earn a win, but the red-and-white clad squad posted nine runs in the first three innings, including a six-run outburst in the second frame. Waikiki pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of three West Oahu errors and nine walks issued by CaneFires pitchers.
Damon Sublett paced Waikiki with two hits including a double and four RBIs. Teammates Tony Thomas Jr. and Austin Romine also picked up two base hits apiece.
West Oahu (4-1) managed three hits, including a double off the bat of Jim Negrych, and left fielder Cyle Hankerd picked up the team's lone RBI.
BeachBoys starter Yuhei Takai (1-0) earned the victory, tossing four innings and allowing an unearned run on three hits while striking out four.
Fumikazu Kimura (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs on four hits through just 1 1/3 innings.
The BeachBoys visit the North Shore Honu for a three-game series starting at 7 p.m. tomorrow night at Hans L'Orange Park.
The CaneFires travel to face the Honolulu Sharks for the first of a three-game set starting at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Les Murakami Stadium.
